Whiteland Parks Board invites public input on Five-Year Master Plan

The Whiteland Park and Recreation Board held a public input meeting Oct. 1 to discuss their Master Plan Committee Updates.

The board, composed of Megan Cain, Dale Gick, Joshua Henry, and Shane Stidham, gathered to discuss updates to the Master Plan after having two initial public meetings. The Master Plan is a five-year plan designed to enrich the Whiteland Parks and Recreation Program.

The initial meeting was used to discuss goals, informed by the Parks Board’s initial survey from March, and potential strategies for each of the goals.

The second meeting reviewed results of the public survey and potential action steps.

The October meeting was an informal session where members of the public could peruse infographics of goals and strategies, designate which priorities were important to them with a sticky note, and learn more about funding of parks.

Park funding was explained more in depth by these infographics. For example, a landmark park would cost roughly $3 million to $5 million. In addition, aquatic versus neighborhood parks have different needs and different costs.

The Whiteland Parks and Recreation department relies on community input and feedback to make well-informed decisions for the public. The next public meeting will take place on Nov. 5 at 6 p.m. at the Whiteland Town Hall.
