The Southport Parks Department met on Nov. 13 at 7pm to discuss updates.
The board first began their meeting discussing old business, including the acquisition of memorial trees from a local arborist. In addition, new swing sets and chains have been purchased and arrived, and are awaiting installation in the spring.
The board is reviewing options for painting equipment, including slides. Discussion about continuing red, white, and blue was started, and additional details about paint quotes will be brought to the December meeting.
A report of the trunk-or-treat event shows that while there was a smaller amount of cars than anticipated, there was a steady stream of kids that were very excited to get candy.
Additional discussion about Santa in the Park began. During this event, Santa drives around all the streets of Southport passing out candy and ends in the park. Kids can have their picture taken with Santa and decorate Christmas cookies, play games, color, and watch a parade.
Southport Parks Board Meetings are open to the public and the public is encouraged to attend. The next meeting is on Dec. 11 at 7pm.
