Setting a New Tradition: Picking a Tree at Evans Whispering Pines

Brittney Dial Testin

Growing up, my husband went to the store to get a live tree with his family. We decided to continue the tradition this year by getting a live tree from Evans Whispering Pines in Danville.

Once we arrived, we were warmly greeted by unexpected acquaintances who shared that they have supported the farm for 20+ and have bought their tree from them every year. One family said that when their kids were young, they would rotate which kid got to pick the tree each year.

My husband said I could pick our very first tree (yay!), although we could only get a 6′ in order for it to fit in our living room. We grabbed a sled and a saw and found the perfect tree. We (him) had fun sawing down the tree and strapping it to our little Honda.

For more information about the farm, keep your eye out for the next Hendricks County Community Connect where I share more information from my interview with the owners.
