How is Technology Shaping Our Kids’ Minds?

I’ll be the first one to tell you how annoying it is to hear people my age, sixties and seventies, talk about the good old days and how much life has changed. However, I heard something recently that is just making me shake my head in absolute disbelief. So, help me through this. I want to get it, but I don’t get it.

I heard this commercial on the radio for air tags for Skechers. I think it was specific to Skechers.

This was like the slogan.

“Dear parents, never worry about where your children’s shoes are again. You can buy the new Skechers that have built in air tags comfortably located so they won’t distract your child when they are worn, and it won’t affect the comfort for them at all. You can link the tag to your phone so that when you need to know where their shoes are, look no further.”

The Air tag, the phone, and/or the app will tell you where the shoes are.

Huh? I’m just shaking my head. Really?

I do know and understand, it’s frustrating when you’re trying to get out the door and you hear “MOM, where are my shoes?”

I get it.

But there’s a part of me that wants to ask whatever happened to creating the routine? The systems that help us organize our lives. The routines that we teach our kids to help understand time management and organization.

Leave your shoes by the door…the backpack

Leave your keys by the door.

If you park in the garage, leave your keys to the car on a hook in the garage or even in the car cup holder.

Whatever happened to us being responsible for habits, routines, taking care of our stuff, knowing where our things are, where they need to be, planning ahead the night before, getting everything by the door. This is a necessary life skill.

What happens to our brain’s ability to actually problem solve: creating reminders, and routines to keep yourself organized.

So now we have an app and a tracker for our shoes.

It’s cool.

If that’s your jam and you think this is fabulous, I love that.

I invite you to reach out and have a conversation with me.

Please, help me to understand this because I don’t get it…yet.
