Happy Holiday Season

Janet Krebs, Parent Coach

This holiday season, my gift to you is something that I learned from a seven-year-old. And it’s perfect for the holidays. Since we all love certain special occasion foods, I admit to loving puppy chow and Chex Mix, only this time of year. So bad and so good. But this is what I learned.

So, when somebody gifts you or you’re at a party and you’re trying something and it’s to die for delicious and you want more, here’s a new tasting strategy for you. Ready? You can do this. You take a taste and say “I’m not getting the taste just yet, but let’s try that again”. Next bite “I might need to try again.” LOL. You see where this is going, right? You just keep acknowledging that you can’t taste it quite yet or that you don’t have the full taste of it or you’re not quite sure.

And you may need another bite just to get the perfect words to articulate, describe how it is that you’re feeling about this scrumptious treat. Just keep tasting. Like, not quite there yet. Let me try again. Honestly, to watch this little guy do this with, Puppy Chow was priceless. It was like watching a theater audition. It was fantastic.

Boy, I’ll tell you, I really do miss being around young people because they are so damn clever. And this is very adult. I’m going to try this. Will you?

So, a) have a wonderful, wonderful holiday. B), be super curious about young people if you’re blessed to be with them because honestly, this is really their holiday. Just watch and be amused and remain curious because they’re just funny as all get out. And C), find your inner child.

I know that sounds kind of hokey, but honestly, watching that little guy taste that puppy chow, and then tried it with somebody else and the giggles that we had reminded me how serious I can get. Find some time, find some ways to enjoy this time of year. Happy Holidays!
