Fun Candle Craft

A cozy, fall day inside calls for a fun little craft.

One that is simple that my family has enjoyed making is candles. We keep our old ingredient/sauce jars (garlic, sauces, capers, etc.) and reuse them as candle containers.

The candles are extra easy to make because it uses a crockpot to melt the wax. We always add a crockpot liner because washing wax out of a dish is a nightmare.

Let’s get started! Here is what you will need.

  • Wax
  • Container
  • Wicks
  • Wick sticker
  • Candle Fragrance Oil (we used Coffee)
  • Ladle
  • Measuring cup

Since the wax can easily destroy a ladle and measuring cup, we get both from the dollar store and use them for crafting specifically.

First, gather all your materials and prepare the wax in the crockpot. Heat the wax on low and wait for it to melt completely. This can take an hour, depending on how much wax you use.

While your wax is melting, prep your jar with the wick. Use the wick sticker to secure your wick to the bottom of the container.

After your wax is melted, add in a few drops of fragrance oil. I don’t follow my own advice and use about 15 drops, which makes a super aggressive and potent candle. A few drops is sufficient if you are more chill than I am.

Use the ladle to add the wax to the measuring cup. Then, pour the wax from the measuring cup into the container. I add in the extra step of the measuring cup because it can get rather messy to ladle directly into the container. Learn from my mistakes and use the measuring cup!

For larger containers, the wick may have trouble staying upright. When this happens, you can steady the wick in the center of the jar using kebob or popsicle sticks, or writing utensils.

Wait for the candle to cool and set completely before using.
