Juliana Silva fell in love with beer and the culture of gathering around great beer during her time living in Belgium.

After moving back to Indiana and finding nothing comparable, a vacant building in Bargersville was bought, bringing Taxman Brewing Company and Gastropub to life.

“We set out to create a place for the community to come together,” Silva said. “Beyond what we serve, we’re most proud of our role in helping anchor the redevelopment of downtown Bargersville.”

Taxman is both a production brewery and a gastropub, brewing a wide range of Belgian-inspired and Belgo-American beers, in addition to seasonal and specialty releases throughout the year. Taxman also serves chef-driven food, highlighting local farms and producers.

Taxman is also one of the few breweries in the United States specializing in Belgian-style beer and has earned global recognition for their commitment to perfecting this style.

“The most rewarding part has been building lasting relationships within the community,” Silva said. “Over the years, we’ve had the opportunity to see young people join our team, grow in their roles, and develop into leaders. We’ve also deepened connections with guests who have become friends. … Watching both our team and our community grow alongside the business has been incredibly meaningful.”

Taxman prioritizes connection with the community by partnering with local nonprofits, hosting fundraisers and events and providing meals to school programs. In addition, their annual Death & Taxes Day festival brings thousands of tourists to Bargersville each year.

“Our culinary team also prioritizes sourcing ingredients from area farmers and producers, helping strengthen the local food economy,” Silva said.

“Our mission at Taxman Hospitality Group is to cultivate and grow sustainable ecosystems within our communities where neighbors can enjoy thoughtfully prepared food, world-class beer, and handcrafted beverages in revitalized historic spaces,” Silva said.

“We strive to create vibrant gathering places that showcase farm-to-table cuisine and innovative beverages,” she continued. “Through a focus on sustainability and culinary excellence, we aim to strengthen the connection between people, their food, and the environment.”

The name is a nod to the founders’ background in tax consulting.

“People often ask, ‘Why the name Taxman?’ It’s a nod to our founders’ backgrounds in international tax consulting,” Silva said. “Our logo was inspired by Benjamin Franklin’s famous line: ‘The only two certainties in life are death and taxes.’”
