Franklin continued its First Friday tradition with the Downtown Art Walk in June, where Downtown Franklin transformed into a pop-up art gallery.
Local artists, including painters, florists, and musicians, lined E Jefferson St. and E Madison St. to share their original works. JP Parker Flowers was also selling peony floral arrangements as a pop-up shop.
Among the artists included personal favorite, artist Emily Winkel (pictured), who was painting landscapes during the event at Generation Art & Frame. Artist Tanya Hoover was selling original prints at Brick Street Boutique, including a postcard with an acrylic landscape of the Indianapolis Monument Circle.
During the event, local businesses are also open until 8pm, giving an opportunity to explore new places. With this extra time, we were able to explore antique shops, such as Upstairs Basement Vintage, Thanks for the Thyme Antiques, and Vintage Whimsy Antiques & Decor.
Additionally, don’t forget to stop by a local restaurant or pick up ice cream at Hoosier Cupboard or Millie’s Ice Cream. A personal favorite of our group was Mi Abuelito Mexican Restaurant.
Because of Independence day, there will be no First Friday in July. The next First Friday will be on August 7, themed Back-To-School Bash to celebrate the start of school with some downtown fun.
