Daming accepted to Ernie Pyle Scholars Program at IU

STAFF REPORT

Roncalli High School is proud to announce that Class of 2025 graduate Madeline Daming has been accepted into the prestigious Ernie Pyle Scholars Program at Indiana University Bloomington.

While at Roncalli, Daming served as the editor-in-chief of the yearbook and became the second Roncalli student to receive this honor, according to a press release.

“I was very excited to learn that I had been accepted into the Ernie Pyle Scholars Program,” Daming said in the press release. “After applying to IU, I kept the program in the back of my mind, but I never really expected to get in, so reading my acceptance letter was definitely a surprise.

The Ernie Pyle Scholars Program admits just 18 students annually. Students enrolled in the journalism program at IU are chosen based on the excellence demonstrated in their applications.

Each student is assigned a journalism faculty member as a mentor for the duration of their four years. There are many travel opportunities, including a five-day domestic trip during sophomore year spring break, an overnight networking trip to Chicago during junior or senior year and a summer program in London following sophomore year.

“I am looking forward to the amazing opportunities that the program will offer me and the relationships that I will be able to build,” Daming said. “I recognize that this program is a unique opportunity, and I am not going to take that for granted. I believe that the program will set me up exceptionally to succeed, which is why I am so excited to have been accepted. I cannot wait until my first day on campus, when I can finally say that I am a student at Indiana University.”
