Coffeehouse Five first opened its doors in 2010, initially operating as a small setup inside of The Gathering Place church. In 2014, Coffeehouse Five made the move to Greenwood, which is its first official location.
“The idea and inspiration came from our family’s own personal journey with marital crisis and addiction” shared Michelle Peters, director of operations, “We wanted a way to help others who were encountering the same struggles that we experienced and also wanted to remove the barrier of financial hardship standing in the way of someone getting access to mental health support. That’s when the model emerged to use proceeds from coffee, pastry, and food sales towards free mental health counseling for the community.”
Since 2014, Coffeehouse Five has expanded to three locations, Greenwood, Franklin, and Bargersville. They roast all coffee beans in-house at the Franklin location, which is also available for retail and wholesale purchase.
“We proudly make our pastries in-house” said Peters, “Most of our recipes stem from family favorite recipes we made with our kids as they grew up, like our classic chocolate chip cookie. The parmesan chive biscuit featured in [the biscuits and gravy dish] was our daughter’s 4-H award-winning recipe.”

“Building a stronger community is at the center of what we do. Our proceeds from the sale of food and beverage support mental health counseling for our community. We offer free onsite addictions and marital counseling and also have established a treatment fund to help connect people to local mental health professionals when the needs fall outside our area of expertise” said Peters.
“We also love the day-to-day of being a place where people gather,” shared Peters, “Whether they are catching up with an old friend, on a first date, enjoying quiet time with a good book, or focusing on getting some work done, we love being the go-to place for our customers.”
Continuing with its focus on community, Coffeehouse Five has launched a fundraiser program, designed to provide support for local organizations.
Coffeehouse Five also offers after hours event rentals. In addition, they offer a wide selection of coffee and pastry catering. For more information, visit www.coffeehousefive.com.
