Beech Grove Drug Free Takes Over Middle School

Submitted Press Release

We took over the Beech Grove Middle School last week with our National Red Ribbon Campaign! Students spent the beginning of each day learning ways to cope with stress, deal with peer pressure, and make healthy decisions in regards to youth substance use and the dangers behind alcohol, vaping, tobacco, marijuana, and opioids.

We announced our 3rd annual Red Ribbon Week art contest winner, Karol, and had his artwork unveiled at Bridge 3 on the Franciscan Trail with the help of our Mayor Jim Coffman, BGCS Superintendent Dr. Hammack, Deputy Chief Mercuri, and our coalition board members.

We ended the week with a school-wide convocation last Friday, led by our very own Beech Grove IN Police Department Officer Jeremy Reese. The convocation included two skits created and led by the school’s National Junior Honors Society, that focused on dangerous effects of alcohol on youth, and exposing the truth behind vaping tobacco and marijuana.

Every student was also given the opportunity to sign our Red Ribbon Week pledge banner. This is a visual representation of the commitment that our community’s youth need to make RIGHT NOW to show self-respect and support for their peers. The banner will be hanging in the school’s lunchroom for the next couple of weeks as a reminder of this commitment and the importance of being drug free!

We are so proud of the students hard work, their willingness to be educated on youth substance use prevention, and the school’s willingness to allow us to have an impact on our community!

Special thanks to Beech Grove City Schools, City of Beech Grove, Beech Grove DPW, and Beech Grove Parks.
