Experience fall and satisfy your family’s adventurous spirit with a trip to the McCloud Prairie Maze at McCloud Nature Park between September 6 and October 31. The prairie blooms into an incredible maze designed by park staff and set within the park’s prairie landscape.
What to Expect
Entry to the maze and park is completely free, with free parking available at the Ray & Mary Benson Nature Center.
This year’s maze pays tribute to the graceful white‑tailed deer, Indiana’s native species. Expect to learn fun facts—like how deer can sprint up to 35 mph, leap over 8 feet, and typically weigh between 120–175lbs depending on gender.
The maze’s one‑mile path makes for a delightful adventure suitable for both children and adults. It’s accessible daily from dawn to dusk, no registration required.
No need to get lost—maps are available at the kiosk outside the nature center, at the maze entrance, and via this downloadable PDF.
Pro Tips
- Stop by the Nature Center to chat with a naturalist to learn even more about the deer, their habitat, and the ecology of the park.
- Dress for autumn weather: layers and closed-toe shoes are best.
- Visit during weekdays or early mornings for a quieter experience.
- Combine your trek through the maze with a stroll on one of the park’s many trails for full nature immersion!
